POSITION SUMMARY:

The role of a Club Facilitator is to guide club members through the curriculum (provided by GC) and to help build sisterhood within the Club and help the girls explore how computer science can be used to impact their community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In this position, you will be responsible for getting girls excited about technology:

  • Help students learn coding across a variety of languages such as Scratch, Python, and JavaScript
  • Provide a friendly, encouraging, and inclusive environment that supports diverse learners
  • Answer student questions and troubleshoot
  • Recommend resources, based on an existing group of free online coding instruction websites
  • Commitment to the over-arching GirlCode principles, code of conduct, and organisational systems and processes as set out in the orientation pack.
  • Excellent time-management: Consistently arriving on time for all sessions, all classes are executed timeously.
  • Conducts him/herself in a professional manner and is constantly working to build the reputation of the GirlCode brand.

REQUIREMENT:

  • A minimum second-year student in an IT-related degree or diploma
  • Strong coding skills in Scratch and one or more popular text-based languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript) as well as Html and CSS. Electronics are a plus!
  • Must be comfortable interacting with learners of diverse ages and levels of experience
  • Ability to provide clear instruction and direction
  • Reliable and responsible
  • Integrity, maturity, credibility, and a demonstrated commitment to GirlCode’s vision
  • Strong work ethic, communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong social skills with both adults and children
  • Ability to engage and manage large groups in classroom settings

 

TIME COMMITMENT:

  • 2-hour shift, Saturday mornings • Twice a month
  • Spend 1-3 hours per week going through the lesson plan for the Club.

SELECTION AND TRAINING:

  • Interview with GirlCode Project Manager and Project Coordinator
  • Must undertake a trial period of up to 10 hours
  • Attend Orientation and training
